America's Love Affair with Morris Garage:

MG Cars is a (now former) British sports car manufacturer, best known for their 2-seat open sports cars. The badge was in continuous use for 56 years after its inception, and created fans and devotees every step of the way. Just about everyone over a certain age has some kind of MG story, either about one they owned or one they knew.
The MG name came from Morris Garages, a dealer of Morris Cars in Oxford that began producing its own customized versions to the designs of Cecil Kimber, who had joined the company as its sales manager in 1921. He was promoted to General Manager in 1922, and held that title until 1941 when he fell out with the owner over producing wartime work. He died in 1945 in a freak railway accident. After some early growing pains, the company moved to a large factory in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, where production lasted until 1980.
MG was absorbed in to the British Motor Corporation in 1952, joined Jaguar Cars in 1966, and finally became part of British Leyland Motor Co. in 1968.
MG's first car was the 14/28, pictured below.

About 400 of these cars were made, and made a name for themselves by successfully completing a six-month expedition through France, Italy, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Spain by the UK Daily Mail's motoring correspondent.
MG came in to its own with the "T" Series cars, produced from 1936 through 1955, and including the TA, TB, TC, TD, and TF. A rather attractive 1937 TA is pictured at the top of this column.
These "body on frame" sports cars proved to be very popular, and were widely used both for pleasurable motoring and motor racing. In fact, the legendary Carroll Shelby got his racing start in a modified TC (pictured below) at a road race in Norman, OK, which he supposedly won, coming in ahead of the Jag XK120s.

The MGA, released in 1955, was designed to satisfy demand for a more modern and comfortable sports car.

An impressive 101,081 of these cars were produced, with the vast majority (about 95%) being exported. They were produced through 1962, and then replaced by the legendary MGB, which is unquestionably the company's most successful car. Built through 1980, the MGB and its variants exceeded production of 520,000 units, again with the majority exported.
In conclusion, it is safe to say these fun, dependable and sporty little cars won the hearts of every market they found their way to, and remain one of the most popular restorations for a person seeking a classic British look and feel without the deep pockets to refurbish a vintage Jaguar or Austin Healy. Pound for pound, the MG represents a terrific value in the collector car market, and is sure to be a familiar sight on the boulevard for many years to come.
